Community Singing at Berkeley Adult School
Using simple, lush harmonies and oral tradition teaching, Kaitie Ty Warren (any pronoun) builds songs layer by layer to include the voices of all singers present. The result is a tapestry of voices in a restorative, collective musical experience: rich for the soul as well as the ears. No musical experience necessary for this paperless singing practice: just bring your voice, open heart and curious mind.

Berkeley Adult School offers a wide and wonderful variety of classes for adult learners from all walks of life. Check their website for “Community Singing” at https://bas.berkeleyschools.net or go to this direct link: https://tinyurl.com/berkeleysong

Love to sing while you’re driving? On a walk? In the shower? Then this joyful, soulful, uplifting community choir is for you! Our choir is:

• Easy to join in and sing because singing experience is never needed, and, because all songs are taught by ear, line-by-line call-and-repeat-style, there’s no music to read!

• Non-auditioned, non-performative, and
anti-perfectionistic.

• Welcoming, accepting, and inclusive. We create a safe, non-judgmental, collaborative space that’s supportive for all, especially if you’re feeling nervous about sharing your voice.

• SO. MUCH. FUN.

We sing short-form, non-religious, easy-to-learn songs mostly sourced from the modern community singing movement — unison songs, chants, rounds, layer songs, and 2-, 3-, and 4-part harmony songs. Songs that take parts of 2-3 evenings to learn, like this one, this one, and this one, and also quick-to-learn songs, like this one, this one, and this one. Come co-create the magic!

Not Your Mama’s Choir is a drop-in community singing experience where everyone is welcome (no matter their level of musicianship).
We generally meet the second Sunday of the month at 1:00 pm. (RSVP requested).
Come experience the absolute joy of singing together in harmony! We sing a wide range of repertoire from what is being called to sing in the moment, to stunning melodies from around the world, from traditional to jazz to gospel to sea shanties to songs with body percussion and the list goes on!
What all of our songs have in common is joy, beauty, depth of expression, fun and an ease of learning them!
We are usually outdoors (Southern California!), but if on occasion the weather is tricky, we move indoors.
Not Your Mama’s Choir is a great time with a wonderful community of people!

The Golden Bridge Choir sings songs of spirit, struggle, liberation and celebration from around the globe.
