Bloomington Peace Choir

in Bloomington, Indiana, USA
directed by Barb Qualls CCLT 2012
bloomingtonpeacechoir@gmail.com | 812-824-9991
http://www.bloomingtonpeacechoir.org

The Bloomington Peace Choir began in April 2010 as a community choir open to all voices. Our members come from many backgrounds, and have no particular religious affiliation, so we strive to be a place where all singers are welcome. Our music varies from American folk music, to South African freedom songs, to songs that embrace themes of peace.

The choir meets year-round, with concerts in the spring and fall. We sing at area events and believe in “singing when asked to”, or SWAT. As a part of our community outreach, the Bloomington Peace Choir performs regularly at area nursing homes, community celebrations and we have offered monthly lunch hour sings at city hall. If you find yourself at one of our concerts, don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing along, our enthusiasm is hard to resist! You may find you’ll want to join us and become a member.

We welcome new voices at all times, but encourage new members to join us at the start of each season, as we introduce new repertoire for our concerts. Because some of our singers have never been in a choir before, we focus on encouragement, listening and learning about the joys of singing together. We started a choir and created a community!!

Weekly rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm at Unity of Bloomington, 4001 S Rogers St, Bloomington IN. Our event calendar can be found on bloomingtonpeacechoir.org. Sing, just for the joy of it!!

Blue Moon Rising is a community choir led by Denise Wilson that welcomes all singers regardless of past experience. We gather to have fun singing, experience a vibrant and welcoming community, and to enjoy the beautiful music that we create together. There are no auditions or a requirement to read music. All you need is an enthusiasm for singing and a willingness to learn songs from a variety of styles and world traditions. The songs have rich harmonies and irresistible rhythms that will lift your worries and grow your ability to sing with confidence and passion! We sing many different kinds of songs – American folk songs (old and new), uplifting chants and rounds from many countries and spiritual traditions, songs of peace and justice, and songs that are fun, funny, and full of celebration!

Blue Moon Rising meets on Wednesday evenings during a fall and spring session which last between fourteen and sixteen weeks. There is a fee for each session with scholarships and a sliding scale available. In addition to regular weekly choir sessions, Denise will occasionally hold one-time singing opportunities for those who are too busy to attend every week or are not free on Wednesday evenings. To receive info on these one-time events, either follow Denise Wilson Music on Facebook or ask to receive future mailings at denise@denisewilson.net.
