helping refugees, HIV awareness, and empowering women victims of violence

choir: Spirit’s Call Choir
choir location: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Since 2002, the choir has held an annual benefit concert for the North End Sponsorship Team (NEST) to support refugees settling in Winnipeg. We have contributed to Simunye, an organization supporting those in South Africa affected by HIV. The choir has sung for Sisters in Spirit to help raise awareness about missing or murdered Aboriginal women, and for the cleaning and greening of North Point Douglas. Another benefit concert supported the Miriam Centre, which aids and empowers women and children who have experienced poverty, violence and abuse. We have made donations to the OSU Children’s Library Fund to help establish libraries for children in very poor areas of Ghana. We have also done a benefit concert to support Hands of Hope, a charitable organization, in Winnipeg that delivers free furniture to those in need who are living in extremely spartan conditions.
